Irate NDC youth siezed cars because they were ignored again

Describing the act as “unfortunate”, Alhaji Omar said the activities by the youth is borne out of frustration.

A regional secretary of the National Democratic Congress in Tamale has attributed the seizure of auctioned vehicles by irate youth of the party to a failure by the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly to include them in the process.

According to Alhaji Omar, supporters of the NDC were completely ignored in a similar exercise under the previous administration and had hope under their own regime the situation will change.

He told Joy News’ Cyrus DeGraft Johnson that the youth are disenchanted over their joblessness, a situation which he said drove them into seizing the vehicles.

On Friday, the irate youth again besieged the offices of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly with equipment to tow away a vehicle they claim has illegally been auctioned.

The group known as Gbewa Youth accused officials of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly of not following due process in the auctioning of the vehicles.

They succeeded in taking one of the vehicles on Thursday and returned to take another Friday morning.

Joy FM’s correspondent Mahama Shaibu said the youth marched to the administration block of the Assembly and pushed away the vehicle.

Only one security man was present at the Assembly despite police assurances the area will be secured, Shaibu noted.

The youth have vowed to seize all other vehicles auctioned under circumstances they claim to be fraudulent.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive is yet to comment on the matter.

Meanwhile police spokesperson in Tamale, Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh said his outfit has began investigations into the matter and will arrest perpetrators.
